Will the opossum on a back road in West Virginia

make it to it’s own little heaven,  

where it’s life will have more value than a destination?

What if the dog at the shelter

who liked to play and cuddle

never finds someone who likes to do the same?

Does the mother wolf forget her young

after a hunter slaughtered her baby?

How does she move on?

Can the elephant forgive the poacher

for taking her tusks; her life?

How will the cat know to sift through the trash

full of broken glass and sharp cans?

Are you not tired of someone taking advantage of you

and ransacking your home?

Have we not hurt them enough?
